Superior Volvo ZERO FATALITIES BY 2020? There were 35,000 traffic fatalities in the U.S. last year. There decreasing but it's shocking that Volvo's internal plan is to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries by 2020. Ironic at a time with when Toyota is struggling with a safety crises. Volvo's excellent job of setting the safet...y bar high has turned from an internal thing to a major external part of their product positioning. This is what their brand is all about! If Volvo's City Safety could be widely adopted it could potentially prevent up to 210,000 non-fatal injury crashes and 7,166 fatal crashes each year, and Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) could eliminate up to 10,345 fatal collisions.

On lap 223 Brad Keselowski spun out bringing the caution flag out and to his good fortune, Johnson was in the pit and able to get out before the pacecar passed the scoring line. While everyone else pitted under the yellow, Johnson was able to inherit the lead and keep it to Victory Lane.

Superior Volvo - For S80, XC90, XC70, V70 and XC60, those two buttons on the right side of the steering wheel can let the driver scroll through the stations stored in the radio memory. Its been that way forever. But what you may not know, if you press and hold one of those buttons (up/down) a fraction of a second longer, it will jump to the next radio station, like the seek function on the radio. There are times your favorite stations arent playing what you want to hear, this function may be very convenient.

Superior Volvo, Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the No. 88 AMP Energy/National Guard Chevrolet, showed why he always is a threat to win at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. A 12-time race winner at the 2.5-mile speedway, Earnhardt passed eight cars in his No. 88 Chevrolet, but couldn't pass leader Jamie McMurray and crossed the ...finish line second. Teammates; Martin led twice for 11 laps and finished 12th. Gordon used his back-up No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet and start finished 26th. Johnson, driver of the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet, suffered an early tire issue after hitting a spot on the historic racetrack was sidelined with a rear axle issue. He was scored with a 35th-place finish.

Freezing temperatures are putting our cars to the test. Here are some helpful tips if you are parking outside: If you don't need to, don’t set the emergency brake, because sometimes the cables will freeze in the locked position. If you try to open your door and the lock is frozen, warm the key. That will help heat the lock from the inside and make it easier to open. Make sure your car has plenty of washer fluid, not water or fluid thinned with water that will cause freezing. If possible lift your wipers from your windshield to prevent freezing while parked. Allow plenty of time for a good engine warm up. Keep an emergency kit in the back seat. Water, blankets, food, etc.. And keep your fuel tank full as possible at all times.

Now that the clock has crossed midnight, and all of the corks are popped, the first thing we have to share with you in the New Year is the exciting new 2011 C30 which will be out in mid January.

The new R-Design model does not only offer a more dynamic appearance but also is a better-balanced and more agile car for those who want a sportier drive experience.

Volvo - The Game, the free game that surpasses all expectations
Volvo - The Game was launched on May 26. By December 1, it had already been played on more than 850,000 computers the world over. About 20,000 new players take up the challenge every week.

"Interest in Volvo - The Game has surpassed all expectations. Using this communication channel, we have succeeded both in renewing our brand name and in reaching out with our new S60 model far beyond our regular customer groups," says Michael Persson, director of market communication at Volvo Cars.

Sometimes 1+1 really does add up to 3. That's the way it was with the launch of the free game, Volvo - The Game, a joint venture between game development company SimBin and Volvo Cars. An amazing 850,000 people have so far played the game, and the number increases all the time. More than 300,000 people have watched YouTube films about the game.

So just why has this game become so popular? After all, not all free games are such a huge success story.

"Volvo - The Game is of exceptionally high quality even though it is a free game," says Magnus Ling, executive vice president of SimBin. "We generally say that a game from SimBin should be easy to drive but hard to master, so the player grows with the challenge. It is typically difficult to find the best braking points and track your ideal line in the beginning, but after a couple of laps most players have control over their driving and frustration is replaced by pleasure," he explains.

The cars and the tracks are also extremely realistic. Both the Volvo C30 and the Volvo S60 Concept are eye-catching new cars. For enthusiasts of older cars there are classics such as the Volvo 855, Volvo 240 and several more to choose between. Each car has its own unique driving feel, and is "built" to replicate the original as faithfully as possible.
Don't be tempted to assume that it is only youngsters who are playing this electronic game, because it has a dedicated following of men and women aged 30 or 40 and up.

The Chayka Racetrack in Kiev in the Ukraine was an entirely new venue in the car game context. It has also helped boost the appeal of Volvo - the Game.

Irrespective of whether the game inspires a sequel or not, today's Volvo - The Game is sufficiently challenging and continues to attract many new players six months after its release.

Fatal Wrecks drop 10% in Missouri

Despite a rash of fatal accidents over the holiday weekend, the number of fatal wrecks in Missouri is down significantly this year.

There was little recognition outside the racing world when Jimmie Johnson won his first NASCAR championship. Same with his second, and again with his third.
But four straight championships? That’s a different story.
Johnson, the first driver in NASCAR history to win four consecutive titles, earned mainstream recognition Monday when he was honored as the Male Athlete of the Year by members of The Associated Press.

Volvo rolls out plug-in electric C30 for Detroit show

Volvo is bringing a battery-powered electric C30 to the Detroit auto show in January.

According to 'Autoweek', The Swedish carmaker's latest EV is a further development of an earlier prototype shown at the Frankfurt show in September, which was drivable. The Detroit show car, however, adds a full interior with instrumentation and enhanced battery packaging.

Volvo says it plans to make a test fleet of 50 battery-powered C30s for a two-year trial starting in 2011.

The electric C30 will seat four, just as the conventional car does, and the biggest change is in the interior. The instrument panel shows only the road speed and energy consumption, and there's a new gauge for the status of the battery charge.

The car has no gears, and full power is available immediately. The lithium-ion batteries can be charged in a household socket or at roadside station; a full charge takes eight hours.

The electric motor is fitted under the hood while the batteries are installed in the propshaft tunnel and in the space normally occupied by the fuel tank.

The car's range is up to 150km (93 miles), which Volvo says covers the daily driving for 90 percent of European motorists.

"The first prototype helped us identify the main technological challenges, such as battery packaging and safety issues," Lennart Stegland, Volvo special vehicles director, said in a statement.

"We have addressed these challenges without compromising the C30's personality. I am very happy with the result. The electric C30 in Detroit is a much more complete product," Stegland said.

ARLINGTON, VA - Nineteen cars and 8 SUVs earn the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2010. For the first time, good performance in a roof strength test to measure protection in a rollover is required to win. TOP SAFETY PICK recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting people in front, side, rear, and now rollover crashes based on good ratings in Institute tests. Winners also must have electronic stability control, which research shows significantly reduces crash risk. This is the second time the Institute has tightened criteria since announcing the first recipients in 2005.

Subaru is the only manufacturer with a winner in all 4 vehicle classes in which it competes. This automaker earns 5 awards for 2010.
