Holly and I went to the BonJovi concert, April 17 at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The new Power and Light District is incredible! They do need to add more restuarants. We got there around 5:45 and couldn't find a place to eat. It was pouring down rain and it took us forever to get there. We both felt very safe driving in my 2008 Volvo S80. We had to do a lot of braking and we had no problems!! The rainsensor on the Volvo worked fantastically. My BLIS was a blessing as it was hard to see in the downpour. Daughtry opened for BonJovi. We got into the Sprint Center to see his last 4 songs. It took them about 15-20 minutes to set up for BonJovi. And there he was ..... OH MY!!! Not only is he pretty, but he is extremely talented! Hahahaha! It was one of the best concerts I've been to in a long long time!.

Volvo Cars wins international prize for City Safety

Volvo Cars' in-house developed technology for avoiding low-speed collisions - is receiving the American "Traffic Safety Achievement Award" at this year's World Traffic Safety Symposium in New York.

"City Safety is yet another example of Volvo's aim to utilize real world traffic situations to develop solutions to prevent accidents. It is extremely gratifying that we are now being acknowledged with this prestigious award," says Jonas Ekmark, head of preventive safety at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre.
At the World Traffic Safety Symposium held at the New York International Auto show, a panel of experts consisting of traffic safety specialists from institutions reward various developments that reduce the number of injuries and fatalities on American roads. Volvo's safety feature, City Safety, made a huge impression on the jury members owing to its ability to prevent or lessen the severity of collisions at low speeds, thus reducing the risk of personal injuries and damage to vehicles.

Volvo will be the world's first to install City Safety as standard equipment in a vehicle. Launched later this year, the XC60 is Volvo's first car to have this system. Approximately 75% of all collisions are at speeds less than 30 km/h (18 mph). In 50 percent of cases the driver does not even brake before the collision and the reason is usually insufficient concentration. If the vehicle in front brakes suddenly and City Safety assesses that a collision is imminent, the brakes are prepared for action. If the driver does not take action, the car is braked automatically. At speeds less than 15 km/h (9 mph) City Safety can entirely avoid accidents, at speeds between 17 - 30 km/h (10-18 mph) the system applies brake force to reduce vehicle speed and help reduce occupant injuries and vehicle damage.

"With City Safety, we hope to eliminate whiplash injuries, to both vehicles involved in typical city driving low speed accidents along with eliminating vehicle body damages," states Ekmark. "Even with just reducing vehicle speed, this system will help to reduce the consequences of low speed impacts. The potential for reducing the risk of both personal injuries and car bodywork damage makes City Safety highly interesting from an insurance perspective. Volvo Cars is currently involved in negotiations with several insurance companies in Europe who are considering an insurance premium discount of up to 30 percent for cars equipped with City Safety.

Volvo Cars introduces special edition to celebrate the Volvo Ocean Race

Volvo Cars is starting the countdown to the Volvo Ocean Race by launching a series of specially designed cars. The new Volvo Ocean Race Edition encompasses three models: the Volvo V70, Volvo XC70 and Volvo XC90. New is that customers can choose between two exterior colours: Ocean Blue and Electric Silver.

"The Volvo Ocean Race reflects the values that our customers look for when they choose a car. It's all about an active lifestyle, adventure and passion. The cars in the Volvo Ocean Race Edition radiate all this. We are convinced that the marine design connection will make them very attractive," says Lennart Stegland, President of the Special Vehicles division at Volvo Cars.

When Volvo organised the Volvo Ocean Race the very first time in 2001-02, the company sold 4,500 special edition Volvo V70s and X70s. In conjunction with the 2005-06 race, the Ocean Blue family was extended with the Volvo XC90 and sales increased to 8,600 cars.

The most recent Volvo Ocean Race Edition will reach dealers in June 2008 and Volvo Cars expects to sell about 9,000 cars. The five largest markets are Germany, Sweden, Finland, Great Britain and Japan.

Exciting new interiors
"This time we've sharpened our offer with a stronger link to sailing. More interior details echoes the materials used in masts and rigs. The stitching on the upholstery traces its roots to sail making. The aluminium detailing on the mats resembles clews. What is more, the design of the unique wheels has been inspired by the movement of the ocean's waves," says Lennart Stegland.

The Volvo Ocean Race emblem has a new, more exclusive design and the cars' marine aura is enhanced by the Ocean Blue livery in combination with exterior details in chrome. The Volvo Ocean Race Edition cars are also available in Electric Silver.

All the cars feature full leather upholstery in exclusive soft leather and the interior is available in Soft Beige or Offblack, with the centre console and other details in a silk matt aluminium finish. The cars in the Volvo Ocean Race Edition series can be specified with the full range of engine alternatives available for each respective model and market.

Finalists Named in 6th Annual Volvo for life Awards

Celebrity Judges To Now Select Top Four Winners; Grand Award Winner will be Named March 19 in New York City

For the past nine weeks hundreds of thousands of members of the American public have been casting their votes online to decide the country's favorite hometown heroes in the 6th Annual Volvo for life Awards. The polls are officially closed and the top three heroes in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life, Environment and the Butterfly Award, Volvo's youth category, can be revealed.

Heroes rising to the top of the voting pool include a man teaching thousands of teenagers how to be safe, defensive drivers, a woman refurbishing electronics for disadvantaged communities and a 10-year-old boy walking hundreds of miles to raise money for homeless children.

The final decision now rests in the hands of a distinguished panel of celebrity judges who are experts on conscience, care and character - Hank Aaron, Sen. Bill Bradley, Maya Lin, Dr. Sally Ride, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Mae Jemison and Edsel Ford. The judges will now review the finalists' nominations to select the program's top three winners in the categories of Safety, Quality of Life and Environment and the Volvo for life Awards grand award winner, "America's Greatest Hometown Hero."

Alexandra Scott's parents, Liz and Jay, are judging the 4th Annual Alexandra Scott Butterfly Award child heroes. The Butterfly Award is in honor of Alex, a Volvo for life Awards winner from Wynnewood, Pa. who, before passing away when she was 8 years old from cancer, raised more than $1 million for pediatric cancer research through lemonade sales and other fundraising activities. Alex's parents will select the winner from three finalists.

Safety:

An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and CPR saved Ronald Dundon's lifeduring a severe sudden cardiac arrest. After his recovery, Dundon, 58 of Kalamazoo, Mich., founded the AED Fund of Kalamazoo County to help increase the chances of survival for future sudden cardiac arrest victims in underserved communities.
Through his program "Driver's Edge," Las Vegas-native Jeff Payne, 40, teaches thousands of youth how to avoid vehicle accidents and drive safely. Through a mix of behind-the-wheel defensive driving exercises and interactive classroom sessions, his program aims to erase the "fast-and-furious" style marring many young adults' driving skills.
Quality of Life:
John Dau, 35 of Syracuse, N.Y., was forced to flee his Sudan village and spend 16 years on the run avoiding air and ground attacks. Dau reached the United States in 2001 and his encounter with American culture was captured in an award-winning documentary, "God Grew Tired of Us." Since then, Dau has raised $700,000 to improve healthcare and literacy in southern Sudan.
Nationally recognized yoga teacher, author and renowned expert in mind-body integration, Matthew Sanford, 42 of Orono, Minn., paralyzed from the chest down, has inspired and enhanced the lives of thousands. In 2001, Sanford founded Mind Body Solutions, a nonprofit organization dedicated to revolutionizing the rehabilitation process.
Darius Weems, 18 of Athens, Ga., diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) as a child, works to raise money for DMD research through "Darius Goes West," a documentary that chronicles his courageous journey across America, his first time ever outside of Georgia. DMD, a condition that takes the lives of young people in their late teens or early 20s, causes respiratory failure, heart failure and debilitating orthopedic complications.
Environment:
Lorraine Kerwood, 47 of Eugene, Ore., created an electronics recycling and distribution center, NextStep, which brings refurbished computers to disadvantaged communities and benefits the environment by reducing electronic waste. NextStep has recycled more than 800 tons of waste and refurbished more than 11,000 electronic devices.
Seventeen-year-old Zander Srodes, of Cape Haze, Fla., has educated more than 5,000 students about sea turtle conservation through a series of educational presentations called "Turtle Talks," which he developed along with a children's activity book on the subject.
Charles Turner, 48 of Sedley, Va., founded the Blackwater-Nottoway Riverkeeper Program, which mobilizes individuals to patrol rivers looking for signs of pollution and educate others about the importance of clean, wild waterways.
Butterfly Award:
Zach Bonner, 10 of Valrico, Fla.,founded the Little Red Wagon Foundation, Inc., an organization that collects and donates backpacks filled with food and school items to disadvantaged children nationwide. In late 2007, Bonner completed a marathon walk from Tampa to Tallahassee, Fla. covering 250 miles over 23 days, raising money and awareness for homeless children along the way.
Blind since birth, 11-year-old Rocco Fiorentino, of Voorhees, N.J.,is an accomplished Braille education activist and musician who works with the Little Rock Foundation, a nonprofit organization established by his family to provide resources for children, parents, therapists, and educators who are facing issues related to blindness.
Sixteen-year-old Dallas Jessup, of Vancouver, Wash., using her own expertise in martial arts and Filipino street fighting, wrote and produced "Just Yell Fire," a film for women of all ages illustrating simple self-defense strategies to defend against an attack, kidnapping or sexual assault. More than 325,000 copies of the film have been downloaded or distributed for free.
Volvo will fly the four category winners to New York to be honored at the 42nd St. Cipriani's during the Volvo for life Awards ceremony on March 19, 2008. At the event, Volvo and program judges will present a short film documenting each winner. The ceremony will be hosted by actor Jay Sanders and will feature musical performances by various artists. Volvo Introduces R-Design

R-Design - an exclusive factory-fitted premium styling concept for customers who want a car with refined, sporty attributes.

R-Design will initially be available on the Volvo C30, Volvo S40, Volvo V50 and Volvo XC90 as of autumn 2008.

Detroit, MI (January 11, 2008) - Volvo's R cars have always been about dynamic design and an exciting driving experience. For the 2009 Model Year, Volvo Cars of North America (VCNA) will introduce R-Design for the
C30, S40, V50 and XC90. R-Design includes model-specific design cues that promise to draw a lot of attention while still offering a premium experience.

"The possibility of tailoring one's car to suit personal tastes is becoming increasingly important to car buyers today. R-Design has been developed for buyers who want a refined and sporty look for their cars," noted Gerry Keaney, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars.

Customers can choose between 10 exterior colors, and the R-Design badge in the grille is accompanied by a range of specially designed exterior and interior details.

Exterior features include a satin matt-finish grille, color coordinated bumpers and lower side moldings, rear or roof spoiler, satin matt-finish door mirror caps and five-spoke aluminum wheels.

Sporty 17 inch and 18 inch wheels will be available on C30, S40 and V50 R-Design, while 19 inch and 20 inch wheels will be available on XC90 R-Design (dependent upon car variant).

Contrasting seats
Inside the cars (C30, S40 and V50) there are seats in off-black Vulcaflex with the seat cushion and backrest in contrasting cream-colored leather. The R-Design logo embossed on the backrest and the contrasting stitching reinforce the seats' sporty appearance.

Other R-Design interior details include a leather-trimmed steering wheel with R-Design logo, the unique R-inspired instrument cluster, aluminum sport pedals, specially designed aluminum center stack and door inlays, gear selector with aluminum inlay and tufted dark sport floor mats with contrasting light leather seams.

Emotional and extrovert
"R-Design is entirely in line with the accelerated focus on making our cars more extroverted and emotional. It gives the buyers the opportunity to spice up the already distinct personality of these car models," commented Steve Mattin, Senior Vice President and Design Director at Volvo Cars.

The R-Design package will become available on the C30, S40, V50 and XC90 in the autumn of 2008.

MY list of favorite automobiles this year is, I think, a reflection of America: there's a growing class of millionaires at the top, a widening blue-collar class at the low end, and a middle class that is rapidly disappearing.
Though few of us have owned a six-figure car, I can't exclude them from consideration among my favorites or my duds.
Certainly not all test cars are created equal. Even the most expensive cars may have squeaks and rattles that others of the same model might not have, and vice versa. For instance, I'm still concerned about owner complaints of reliability problems on the Volkswagen Eos, which made my list last year. I liked it when I drove it, and nothing fell off. And I did urge caution about VW's reliability bugaboo.
Manufacturers usually make sure test cars are in showroom condition and beyond. I know of cases where test cars have been tweaked beyond stock especially to impress us. (I'm still wondering where that bright red Honda Civic Hybrid that I tested last year came from; it is not a color you can buy.) I try to keep a jaundiced eye out for the ringers.
What I can say for sure is that after testing the cars listed here, I came away with strong opinions; good and bad. But as always, caveat emptor; your smileage may vary. Here are my picks:
1. FERRARI 599 GTB FIORANO ($320,000). It is the finest automobile on the road too bad they are already sold out and so expensive few of us will ever drive one. The 599 is indeed costly, but it has features found only on million-dollar cars like its Enzo-sourced 612-horsepower V-12 engine. Despite its 3.7-second 0-60 capability and 205 m.p.h. top speed, this is a car that is also tuned so that it can be a docile everyday driver. The sophistication and beauty of this latest Ferrari elevates it from a sublime piece of machinery to fine art.
2. ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM DROPHEAD COUPE ($407,000) The world's most expensive four-seat convertible, this opulently appointed land yacht is worthy of note because BMW, which began producing Rolls-Royces only in 2003, has done an admirable job of capturing the essence of British luxury better than the British are doing these days, in fact.
3. AUDI R8 ($109,000-$118,000) The arrival of the R8 poses a question: Why spend $80,000 to $100,000 more for a Lamborghini Gallardo, the R8's evil twin? Whereas the Gallardo is crude, rude, uncouth and socially borderline, the R8 offers everyday drivability, superior occupant comfort, cutting-edge performance and no blind spots. Since Audi also owns Lamborghini, the R8 represents a triumph over itself.
4. PORSCHE CAYENNE ($43,400-$93,700) This polarizing Porsche is the best S.U.V. you can buy. If you can get over the fact that the venerable German sports car maker has stooped to making S.U.V.'s, the Cayenne has a lot going for it: high-quality materials, unparalleled driving dynamics and a hip factor missing in other S.U.V.'s. And where else can you find a Porsche V-8?
5. FORD HARLEY-DAVIDSON F-150 ($37,210) This classy fashion accessory is one of the few vehicles that still gets makeovers just about every year. The 2008 model features improved appearance, content and performance including an optional 450-horsepower supercharged engine (add $6,500). Expensive, at just under $45,000 loaded, but what price panache? But it is still less than several flavors of Toyota's humdrum, painfully expensive Tundra.
6. VOLVO S80 3.2 ($39,400) Buckle up and the first thought you're likely to have is, “Let's go somewhere.” My apologies to Volvo for the number of miles I put on this car while testing it. I couldn't stop myself. The V-8 version, however, seemed like overkill.
7. NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE ($21,195-$26,095) Some call it a junior G37, but this sleek two-door actually upstages its Infiniti cousin, especially when equipped with a 270-horsepower V-6. The G37 weighs a ponderous 400 pounds more and costs an extra 10 grand. Who needs it, when this charmer can outperform it?
8. HONDA ACCORD ($21,995-$31,105) The first time I got into this elegant new sedan and drove off, I had to ask myself, “Have I accidentally stolen a BMW?” This latest Accord, all new for 2008, positively oozes style, sophistication and mechanical savvy. Always very good, the new Accord has graduated to great.
9. VOLVO C30 ($23,395-$26,395) My editors asked how it was possible that my list included two Volvos and no BMWs. Weird, isn't it? Bummed that the new European Ford Focus is not available in the United States? The C30 has the sweet-handling Ford C1 platform, which you've been missing, under it. The C30 represents what the industry needs a lot more of: funky, affordable fun.
10. THE 789 ($135,000) This eye-catching amalgam of styling from Chevrolet's 1957, 1958 and 1959 models was displayed at the New York auto show. Built on a Corvette C6 platform and powered by a 400-horsepower Chevy V-8, the 789 is hung with carbon fiber body panels that can be ordered in 10,000 color combinations. Made by the custom automaker n2a Motors, the 789 is merely the coolest car on this ever-hotter planet.

Missouri heading to Cotton Bowl vs. Arkansas

Missouri has accepted an invitation to face Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Missouri’s first New Year’s Day bowl since the Jan. 1, 1970 Orange Bowl, will kick off at 10:30 a.m. “It means a lot to me,” said MU coach Gary Pinkel. “This is the kind of step you want to take.”
Missouri will be playing in its fourth bowl game in five seasons, but the Cotton Bowl is the most prestigious in Pinkel’s seven seasons at MU.
