Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Signs SPA with Ford Motor Company For Volvo Cars

Sunday March 28th, Geely signed a stock purchase agreement with Ford Motoe Company whereby they would acquire the assets of Volvo Car Corporation.

• Volvo Cars will be an independent company within Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.


• Volvo Cars will retain the headquarters in Sweden and the manufacturing operations in Europe.

• Volvo Cars will remain a Swedish company and will continue to develop business and product plans from Sweden.

• Volvo Cars and Geely Automobile will maintain separate brand strategies and operate in different segments.

• Ford Motor Company is the owner of Volvo Cars until the deal has been closed during the third quarter 2010.

To identify them and the others on our list, we used Vincentric data to determine the total cost of ownership for each vehicle, including adjusted manufacturer suggested retail price and five-year totals for fuel costs, maintenance, repairs, average national insurance rates, depreciation, interest, opportunity costs and taxes.  (Vincentric is an auto consulting firm based in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.)  We divided our results into 10 segments to find the least expensive models in each class.
